Print on demand wall art: how to choose a provider

Decide these four things first

Comparing providers is quicker once you know what you need. Write down:

1. Product. Framed canvas, stretched (gallery-wrapped) canvas, framed print with or without a mat, or unframed poster. Not every provider makes every one, and frame colours differ.
2. Buyers' countries. A provider that prints near your buyers usually means cheaper, faster shipping. Printify says the same when it explains how to choose a print provider (source).
3. Sales channel. Etsy, Shopify or both. Check the integration before you build a catalogue.
4. Sizes and ratios. Your artwork ratio (2:3, 3:4, 4:5, ISO A) has to match sizes the provider offers, or you'll crop the art.

Facts below are each provider's own wording, checked on 2026-10-26. Products and countries change, so recheck before you commit. This is not a ranking, and WallMock has no affiliate link with any of them.

What the table doesn't tell you

• Printify varies by provider. Printify says its print providers differ in location, prices, shipping, product models, print areas and print methods (source). Two "framed canvas" listings on Printify can come from different factories, so sample the exact provider.
• Printful picks the facility. Printful chooses the fulfilment centre for each order automatically, and you can't select one (source). Its UK centre only ships to UK addresses.
• Gelato frames differ by region. Its framed canvas frame is 42 mm deep in North America and 32 mm in Europe (source). Your listing text should state the frame depth for each region.
• US-only production. Lumaprints names two US sites. That suits US buyers. For buyers abroad, check shipping before you list.

A checklist before you list

• Order a sample of every frame colour you plan to sell, and photograph it.
• Check the provider's sizes against your artwork ratio with the print ratio guide.
• Check your file is big enough for the largest size with the print resolution checker.
• Stay inside Etsy's variation limits: up to two options per listing, 70 choices per option and 400 variants in total, as listed by Printify (source).
• Add the provider as a production partner on Etsy. Etsy names Printful, Printify and Gooten as examples of print-on-demand partners (source).
• Set shipping origins to the partner's location, as Etsy asks.
• Make room photos that show the same frame, mat and finish as the sample.

Why listing photos matter more with print on demand

When many shops sell the same base product from the same provider, the product is the same. What differs is your art and your photos. Provider mockups are available to everyone who sells that product. Your own room photos are something a competitor doesn't have.
